This weekend, I wanted to hike at Brainard Lake because the weather was inviting and I needed the exercise. Once I got to the entrance, I discovered it was still closed and that I needed to find a different place to exercise. Driving down the Peak to Peak Highway, there was another place I had heard of before and thought it might have some hiking options. The entrance was to Camp Dick Campground and although the entrance was closed, we could still walk to hiking options. The hike started around 4 pm and I hiked about 5 miles. With daylight savings in mind, our hike ended around 6:30 pm with enough sunlight to drive home.

I originally thought my exploration would lead to Sourdough Trail; however, it led me to Trail 105. To be clear, Trail 105 is pretty easy and I later learned it’s a great place for snowshoeing. Although it was easy, it was a great opportunity to throw sticks for my lab, Deuce. He’s 8.5 years old and all that fetching made him tired today. We also threw some snowballs that he happily chased. All that said, I was satisfied with the hike because it provided me the opportunity to be present in the moment and get some sunshine. I can also admit that because of all the sliding in the snow yesterday, I was somewhat sore today.
