For lunch, my boss and I decided to visit La Gloria located in a shopping center called The Pearl. La Gloria was lively because it had artwork, metal sculptures, inviting to dog owners, inviting to children, music, and a lovely patio to eat and drink. The vibe in this area reminded me of being in Tucson. The area itself though definitely has that gentrified look with a southwestern feel. We put our names on the list for the first available spot located either inside or outside.
We ended up sitting down inside and reviewed the menu. It was difficult to focus on the menu because I wanted to see all the decorations inside the building. I decided to order the Alambre Tacos, the house frozen margarita, a side order of beans, a side order of rice, and then shared a sope with my boss.
The margarita was tasty, but I should have added some of the fruit flavor to the margarita. Overall, I would order that margarita again because it was so refreshing.
The Alambre tacos was a plate with three tacos. I wish I would have ordered cheese for the tacos. The positive with the tacos was that I added some salsa to it and it instantly became more delicious. I also appreciated that my taco had big chunks of steak. It was a perfect portion with my margarita. The beans were easy to chew and had a sweet flavor towards the end. The rice wasn’t bursting with flavor, but was a great addition to the beans. Here is a photo of the Alambre Tacos, the beans, the rice, salsa, some chips, and my margarita.

We also ended up ordering a sope because it looked good on the other table. It came to our table with avocado on top of it. This was by far THE BEST part of the meal. The meat was juicy, tender, and had a perfect blend of spice. The sope appeared to have a waffle with the meat on top of it. Then, the avocado placed on top of it. This was my first time trying a sope and I plan on eating more sopes.

The Sope- Notice the bottom looks like a waffle, the meat on top, and the avocado.
After you leave the restaurant, I would suggest you walk around the area to see the shops and hang out in the court yard area. While in the court yard, you can admire the architecture. Here’s a photo from the Pearl walking area.
Towards the end of the day, I wanted some sweets and coffee. There were a couple places to choose from, but we chose to eat at Lorraine Bakery. Stay tuned for that review!
Have you visited the Pearl area in San Antonio? What did you enjoy and/or not enjoy about that place?
