Recently Pete and I went to North Dakota to visit family. I mostly ate delicious food on the farm, but during the trip I was able to visit the downtown area of Stanley, North Dakota. While I explored Main Street, I listened to the music played on the speaker system. I think Ace Hardware operates the speaker system.
Some of the highlights from downtown Stanley include :
The Dakota Drug Store– To my surprise the Dakota drug store had great variety, including medical supplies, office supplies, gifts, and the Whirl-A-Whip. The Whirl-A-Whip is an ice cream treat that has candies and other ingredients mixed into the ice cream. I didn’t try one because I wanted to eat lunch first, but the description makes it sound like a Dairy Queen blizzard.

The Leader– This place is a bar and from the outside it looks like a retail store. They typically open later in the afternoon, but the day we visited, they were open earlier for a pool tournament. Upon walking inside, it was clear The Leader had been renovated into a welcoming environment. The beer selection was typical for a bar, with 10+ draft beers to choose from; however, they had a shiny tile backdrop along the wall. They also had several animal heads mounted on the walls. The menu had several options and I chose to eat the burger with fries. This was the best decision ever because the burger was super juicy with perfect amount of seasoning. The price was around $11.00. Overall, this was the best burger I have had in a while.
If you drive through Stanley, North Dakota, you should visit The Leader.
